If a claimant is receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), their spouse may also be eligible to receive benefits. This type of benefit is called an auxiliary benefit.
Keep in mind, auxiliary benefits are not provided for claimants who are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
When can spouses receive auxiliary benefits?
1. Spouses have to be either:
a) 62 or older, or
b) have a child in their care who is either
i) under the age of 16, or
